Moonstone, named for its moon-like sheen, belongs to the feldspar-group mineral orthoclase. It displays a distinctive phenomenon known as adolescence. Orthoclase and albite are two feldspar minerals which compose it. The thinness of the gemstone decides its light diffraction from white to blue. The most valuable, transparent moonstone including strong blue sheen originates from Myanmar.
