Shattuckite, named after Shattuck Mine in Bisbee Arizona, is an unusual copper mineral and is highly regarded for its vivid blue color. It formed seasonally within the quartz crystals under the top layer. It has a basic copper silicate composition and a blue streak. The orthorhombic crystal system is the system where it crystallizes.
FEATURES
- It can exhibit a unique weak green or moderate blue fluorescence.
- It cannot form different crystals but can have a pseudohexagonal or tabular appearance.
- It comes in the range of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs hardness scale
- It does not break easily into pieces, because it lacks a distinct cleavage.
- It can exhibit a conchoidal fracture.
USES
- Jewelers and Lapidary artists use shattuckite to make cabochons, beads, and ornamentals.
- Artistically also, it has been used broadly.
- However, the meaningful use of it is done in geological and mineralogical research. It can be used for spiritual awakenings because it is believed to possess metaphysical properties.
